Homemade Dishwasher Tabs

Desperate times, call for desperate measures. When you run out of dishwasher soap and it's well passed store closing times, you whip out your homemade ingredients and bust out dishwasher tabs so you can run the dishwasher. Yup, that's how I roll, mostly out of desperation. Well, especialy since I tend to run a tight budget and I only purchase the exact amount we will need at the time and no more. Haha, and then I constantly run out of stuff, hmmm...wonder why. :P

Thankfully, this time I had all the ingredients from making laundry detergent a month ago and thought they might have similar ingredients. Yay, I was right, almost all the same ingredients and way easy to make. I'm all about easy, and homemade (do those contradict each other?). HAHA.

I also love this recipe because it has Thieves cleaner and lemon essential oil in it. If you don't know Thieves, you need to. It's the best cleaning, all natural solution on THE PLANET! Yup, I said it. Love, Love, Love it.

So, here is the recipe I used, it totally worked and I feel so domesticated now. If you need to find where to buy the ingredients, check out my amazon store.

  •  1 cup of Borax
  • 1 cup of Washing Soda
  • 1/2 cap full of Thieves Cleaner
  • 10 drops of Lemon essential oil
  • Almost 1 cup of Vinegar

In a large glass bowl, mix the Borax and Washing Soda together. In a glass measuring cup add Thieves Cleaner and Lemon essential oil. Fill the remainder with vinegar until you have 1 cup of liquid. Add the liquid mixture into the dry mix and whisk together… it will foam a little. Pour into ice cube trays and let them sit out for about two hours. I put them in the fridge until they firmed up. Store in air tight mason jars.

Do not overfill your ice cube trays so they will easily fit in your dishwasher soap tray. Add vinegar to your rinse cycle.
