Not to brag... BUT.... my pizza dough is the bomb diggity. Haha. (at least according to my 4 kids). We've been making pizza dough for years and this recipe is our favorite. I don't remember how exactly this one came to be, a mish-mash of a few recipes I found, I'm sure. Which, pretty much sums up how all my recipes come to be.
We make pizza every Friday night, as a family tradition. Even though, I don't always eat pizza myself, see my Zuchinni pizza alternative here. The kids love to help me make the dough and put the toppings on. If they learn to cook anything from me, they will know how to make their own pizza dough. Ha!
Homemade Pizza Dough:
2 tsp yeast
2 cups warm water
1 Tbsp Organic sugar
2 tsp Sea salt
5 cups Organic Flour
1/2 - 1 cup Olive Oil
yields: 2 large pizza doughs
Add 2 tsp yeast and 1 Tbsp sugar to 2 cups warm water and stir.
In a separate large bowl add flour and salt, then mix together.
Allow yeast to rest until it has started to bubble a bit, then pour into flour mixture.
Knead dough until it forms a round ball. Add more flour if too sticky.
Pour olive oil over dough ball to coat the outside. This gives it lots of flavor and helps the crust to get that golden brown.
Cover and let dough rise for at least 30-minutes. Longer is great. I’ve seen some suggestions to allow several days of rest in the fridge.
Divide dough into two pieces. Roll out dough into a large circle. Precook dough at 450 degrees for 5 minutes. This allows the dough to get all bubbly. If you have a pizza stone, you can skip this step.
Remove pizza dough from oven and add your sauce and toppings. Put back in the oven again for 10-13 minutes. Remove from oven when cheese and crust is golden brown. Slice and enjoy!
