Ok moms, we all know that we don’t often get the time to care for our hair. We aren’t even guaranteed a shower most days! How many of us live in a ponytail? Um, Me. And dry shampoo has become an answer to prayer. (Recipe for natural dry shampoo at the bottom). But, how could I get healthy hair that I didn't mind leaving down and didn't cost me an arm and a leg? This one switch that I made took me a lot of research to get to, but the results were crazy awesome.
For hair care, I thought I was using the best hair care products I could. The bottle said natural and safe, full of botanicals and oils from Trader Joes and only $3. WOW! Sounds great for hair, right? I thought so, and I was using it on my kids as well. I mean, it was better than anything else I had used in my 30-something (cough) years of life before. It must be great for my hair! Right?
Natural Healthy Hair: Scan Your Shampoos
To my dismay, my heart was broken when I decided to scan my shampoo with the "Think Dirty" App and discovered the shampoo I had been using was a 9 our of 10 in toxicity! NOOOOO!!!!!!! Say it ain't so, Trader Joe's! Don't worry, I still love you Trader Joe's but I don't buy your shampoo anymore.
Now, I was on a mission to scan all the shampoo's in Target, Trader Joe's, and Sprouts to find a shampoo that was in the 0-2 range in toxicity. You know what I found?? NOTHING!! Even the brands that claimed to be natural were super high on the scale.
The lowest brand I found was the Alba Shampoo Colorific and their coconut conditioner were a 3! MUCH BETTER but it left my hair EXTREMELY oily. I didn't like how it stayed in my hair.
Natural Healthy Hair: Check 3rd Party Testing
I started using Young Living's shampoo because I love their essential oils (Why I love Young Living) and I wanted lavender to give me some volume to my thin, lifeless hair. Plus, I know they are completely transparent with all their ingredients in their products, even when they are not required to. There are no hidden items under industry terms like "perfume" or "Natural scent." Even better, they have their products tested by reputable 3rd party companies to uphold their integrity. Which is not required of them, and not many companies do that. Definitely look for 3rd party testing on any product you are ingesting and putting on your skin.
Natural Healthy Hair:Supplemental Hair, Skin & Nail Support
Something as important as what we put on our hair is what we put in our bodies. Eating healthy foods, healthy fats and getting lots of clean water is important. One product that has received rave reviews for hair is Young Living's Sulfurzyme. Sulfurzyme is supplemental support for Hair, Skin and Nails, look for naturally occurring sulfur. It combines wolfberry with MSM, a naturally occurring organic form of dietary sulfur needed by our bodies every day to maintain the structure of proteins, protect cells and cell membranes, replenish the connections between cells, and preserve the molecular framework of connective tissue."
Natural Healthy Hair: Do You Love The Results?
Right away, I noticed my hair was shinier and healthier than I'd ever seen it before. It was like it was being fed nutrients instead of being coated in harmful chemicals. My hair was bouncy and it held curls better than ever. I couldn't believe my eyes. My hair had never been this healthy in my entire life.
Not only was I happy with the ingredients that I was putting on my hair and soaking into my skin, but I felt safe knowing it was good for my kids as well.
If you're interested in getting some Young Living hair products, make sure and get a wholesale account so you can get them at 24% off! One bottle of shampoo is highly concentrated. I will sometimes split it into two different bottles and fill the rest with water, to stretch it farther and it's still works great. Because there are pure essential oils in the shampoos, they can be oily if you already have oily hair. You can dilute half the bottle with water, or use small quantities and rinse really well.
Young Living Shampoos come in Copaiba Vanilla, Lavender Mint, Lavender Volume, KidScents and Animal Scents.
