The Easiest Way To Get Healthy Hair - Plus Dry Shampoo Recipe

How to get Healthy All Natural Hair with essential oils

Ok moms, we all know that we don’t often get the time to care for our hair. We aren’t even guaranteed a shower most days! How many of us live in a ponytail? Um, Me. And dry shampoo has become an answer to prayer. (Recipe for natural dry shampoo at the bottom). But, how could I get healthy hair that I didn't mind leaving down and didn't cost me an arm and a leg? These few switches that I made took me a lot of research to get to, but the results were crazy awesome.

For hair care, I thought I was using the best hair care products I could. The bottle said natural and safe, full of botanicals and oils from Trader Joes and only $3. WOW! Sounds great for hair, right? I thought so, and I was using it on my kids as well. I mean, it was better than anything else I had used in my 30-something (cough) years of life before. It must be great for my hair! Right?

1. Natural Healthy Hair: Stop Washing Your Hair & Skin with Toxins

To my dismay, my heart was broken when I decided to scan my shampoo with the "Think Dirty" App and discovered the shampoo I had been using was a 9 our of 10 in toxicity! NOOOOO!!!!!!! Say it ain't so, Trader Joe's! Don't worry, I still love you Trader Joe's but I don't buy your shampoo anymore.

Now, I was on a mission to scan all the shampoo's in Target, Trader Joe's, and Sprouts to find a shampoo that was in the 0-2 range in toxicity. You know what I found?? VERY FEW!! Even the brands that claimed to be natural were super high on the toxicity scale.

The lowest brand I found was at the health food store Sprouts, was Alba Colorific and Honest Shampoo! You'd think all of their shampoos would be low on the toxicity scale at the health food store. Sadly, not according to the Think Dirty App.

2. Natural Healthy Hair: Ditch the Household Toxins

About 3 years ago, I decided to try out a wellness subscription box from Young Living. Obviously, 3 years and I'm still loving it. It's so nice because I can get all my household products delivered each month and I don't need to worry about hidden toxic ingredients.

Young Living is committed to all natural ingredients of the highest quality. They show it with their open door policy on all their farms, anyone can visit and see the entire process (no oil brokers-Farm to Family).  Plus, they disclose every ingredient even when they are not required to. There are no secret ingredients disguised under industry terms like "perfume" or "Natural scent."

Even better, they have their products tested by reputable 3rd party companies to uphold their integrity. Which is not required of them, and not many companies do that. Definitely look for 3rd party testing on any product you are putting on or in your body.

I can finally keep my cleaners under the sink because they are all natural. I get things like All-purpose cleaner (Thieves Cleaner is the best cleaner on the planet if you have not heard of it, you're seriously in for a treat), toothpaste, hand soap, makeup, skincare, diffusers, essential oils, and about 500 other healthy products to choose from.

Plus, these are not just your regular grocery store essential oils. Young Living is the founding company of the essential oil craze of today. They have over 25 years experience growing, distilling and testing their essential oils for the highest potency.  (Why I love Young Living).

3. Natural Healthy Hair: Hair Supporting Nutrients

Something as important as what we put on our hair is what we put in our bodies. Eating healthy foods, healthy fats and getting lots of clean water is important. One product that has received rave reviews for hair is Young Living's Sulfurzyme. Sulfurzyme is supplemental support for Hair, Skin and Nails, look for naturally occurring sulfur. It combines wolfberry with MSM, a naturally occurring organic form of dietary sulfur needed by our bodies every day to maintain the structure of proteins, protect cells and cell membranes, replenish the connections between cells, and preserve the molecular framework of connective tissue."

4. Natural Healthy Hair: Is it Bringing You Results?

Healthy, Natural, Hair DIY Homemade

Ditching the toxic shampoos, feeding my body good nutrients, plus getting rid of the toxic cleaners and air fresheners that I was surrounding myself in each day, gave me amazing results. My hair dresser, who is one of those blatantly honest hair dressers, finally told me that I had such healthy hair. WHAT??? I HAVE NEVER heard a hair dresser tell me that before. It's usually "dry, damaged and split."

My hair was shinier and healthier than I'd ever seen it before. It was like it was being fed nutrients instead of being coated in harmful chemicals. My hair was bouncy and it held curls better than ever. I couldn't believe my eyes. My hair had never been this healthy in my entire life.

Not only was I happy with the ingredients that I was putting on my hair and soaking into my skin, but I felt safe knowing it was good for my kids as well.
