Years ago, I was gifted a sugar scrub for Christmas and, this is a little embarrassing but, I had no idea what to do with it. Am I the only one who was totally clueless to these things? I'd never used one before and the thought of rubbing a sugar scrub on my skin in the shower did not sound enjoyable. So the jar of homemade sugar scrub sat in my bathroom for months, unused. So sad.
When I got into essential oils, I read about a sugar scrub recipe that was made with coffee grinds and grapefruit essential oil that was good for smoothing skin on cellulite areas. Um, yes please!!! I can definitely try that.
I put together the ingredients and slathered it all over myself in the shower. Naturally, it made a huge coffee mess, ha ha. It was pretty comical. "Don't mind me, just taking a shower with coffee all over me." Seems a little contradictory, doesn't it? It was quite the shower adventure.
The results were super soft baby skin, like butter. It does a great job of smoothing the skin and lessening the appearance of cellulite. I'll take it.
HOMEMADE COFFEE GRAPEFRUIT SCRUB
• 1/4 cup EVOO
• 1/2 cup coffee grounds (I've read reviews from using both used and unused coffee grounds, see what works best for you)
• 2 Tbsp Brown Sugar
• 10 drops Grapefruit Essential oil (don't use the cheap stuff from the store, get high quality - see where I get my oils)
• 10 drops Citrus Fresh Essential Oil (a Blend of citrus oils from Young Living)
1. Mix all together and place in a small glass jar with a lid.
2. In a warm shower, after your pores are nice and open, rub scrub on desired area and let sit. The longer it sits the better up to 15 min.
3. Rinse off in shower.
4. Use daily for 1-2 weeks
HOMEMADE LAVENDER LIP SCRUB
Now that I was a pro at making sugar scrubs, I decided to make sugar scrubs for Christmas presents for my friends. I picked out a SUPER easy Lavender Lip Scrub. There's literally only 3 ingredients, coconut oil, organic cane sugar and Lavender Vitality (safe for internal use).
So as a good friend, I should probably try out the scrub before I give it out, right? So, I rub a little of the Lavender Lip Scrub on my lips and OHHHHHHH MYYYYYY GOOOODNESSSSSS! Where has this lip scrub been all my life? It's edible, totally non toxic, and tasted delicious. The best part was my lips felt like butter. So smooth and soft. I couldn't stop rubbing my lips together. It tasted so good I wanted to keep tasting it all day. See recipe below
This scrubs as it exfoliates and it also moisturizes, as we get older we need all the moisture we can get too help us look as young as we can. When I use my homemade sugar scrub it makes my face feel so soft, made with all natural ingredients is a way to give myself a mini spa day. Exfoliating your skin with a homemade sugar scrub with high quality essential oils is a great way to care for your skin. The sugar scrubs away all the impurities on your skin. It helps open up your pores to clean and minimize or get rid of acne and blackheads.
FOR THE FACE
I do not recommend sugar scrubs for your face, just because, it can be too harsh. For a gentle exfoliator for the face I would definitely recommend getting the Mint Satin Facial Scrub from Young Living. It uses all natural ingredients like sunflower seed oil, mango butter, raspberry extract and peppermint essential oil. It wakes your face up and leaves it feeling so smooth and clean. I love this exfoliator. (You can purchase it at retail or get 24% off wholesale pricing when you get a Starter Kit)
