Homemade Peppermint & Rosemary Shaving Cream

Homemade Peppermin and Rosemary Shaving cream made with essential oils and shea butter

Before kids, when I could take my time in the shower, I remember purchasing the most smell-good ladies shaving cream I could find. It was pink and foamy and smelled so divine. I had one of those purple netted plastic scrunchy-thingy's, (what do you call those things?) hanging in my shower. I really felt like I was pampering myself. Sadly, it didn't take me very long to figure out that my skin would get irritated and bumpy whenever I used it. Then, I tried using my shampoo or bar soap and even just plain water. Again, my skin was left dry and bumpy. Ugh.

According to the THINK DIRTY APP, my old shaving creams rates at an 8 on the toxicity scale. Yikes! The Think Dirty App rates them on levels of toxicity from 0-10. 10 being the highest in toxicity.

Meanwhile, my husband also ditched his shaving cream he had been using for years. He would get tiny bumps on his neck and his face would get red. No wonder, his shave cream was filled with ingredients that were more irritating to his body than helpful. He opted to just using water and shaving while in the shower. Which left him dry and red.

Fast forward to 3 years ago when I started using essential oils for ERRYTHING!! I had already been making my own skin cream with shea butter and coconut oil, Frankincense and Lavender and it was HEAVENLY!!

I came across this shaving cream recipe by Food For Family on Pinterest and immediately knew it was doable with similar ingredients to my skin cream recipe.

For Christmas that year, I made the shaving cream for the guys in my family. I have lots of brothers, plus my dad and father-in-law. I designed some cute labels to put on top of the small mason jars. I got requests for refills, they loved it so much.

The shea butter and oils create a protective layer between the skin and the razor and leave the skin moisturized and not dry like soaps, reducing razor burns. The best part is, there's no need to wash it off. You can let it stay on your skin. Then, wash your razor in some water and a touch of castille soap.

Natural, Homemade Skin Smoothing Cream!!!

If this skin cream was on the market, it would blow the competition out of the water. There's nothing synthetic or chemical in it. Frankincense is known for its super skin promoting skills (yes, those are real skills). If you don't know all the amazing benefits of Frankincense, just google it, you will be amazed. Add a little Lavender for extra skin support, equals skin-tastic feeling!

Did you know that a ton of popular skin moisturizers actually cause cancer? Ugh, I know. We need to be extra careful with ANYTHING we put on our skin. Read labels, use the "Think Dirty" app to see just how toxic your over the counter skin creams and lotions are.

If you love to make homemade products, this one is super easy and super luxurious. I absolutely love this skin cream because I know every single ingredient in it and it actually promotes healthy skin firming and smoothing. All ingredients that will not harm your body and actually promote healthy appearing skin.

Homemade Skin Smoothing Cream

Directions:
1. Use a double boiler, or do create your own with one pot inside the other.  Fill water in the bottom pot.

2. Melt the shea butter and coconut oil together.

3. Remove from heat and let cool for about 30 minutes.

4. Once cool, add Frankincense and Lavender essential oils and stir.

5. Wait until it's partially solid (refrigerate if necessary) then whip with a hand mixer until you achieve a butter-like consistency (few minutes).

6. Store in a 4 oz glass jar (I got mine for $1 at Target). This should keep for 6-12 months.

Optional: If you don’t have shea butter, use Cocoa Butter. Be warned chocolate-lovers, will have a chocolate scent.
